1. Introduction

WebMoney is an online payment settlement system that has been around for years. Established in 1998, this digital payment system offers customers ways to make secure payments online as well as ways to transfer money online. Over the years, the growing WebMoney community has improved the system and given birth to a multitude of ways to pay on the internet using the different wallets money can be stored in. One such birth is with its cards, where customers can actually have physical plastic, prepaid cards that link to their WebMoney account. These cards can range from personal to business, letting the account user move their WebMoney funds out into the world at their desire. In the same way, a WebMoney balance can be used to top up a card balance, using the card in places that accept MasterCard, customers can make payments in stores or online anywhere the symbol is accepted. A WebMoney card is being used more and more by people who want a straightforward way of accessing and spending their money worldwide and who seek secure and top accredited ways of online payments. By entitling a customer to make fast, quality, secure, and instant payments as well as providing customers with high-quality service and products to service their needs efficiently, WebMoney cards can give the account holder peace of mind and a pleasant experience when needing access to funds.

1.1 What are WebMoney Cards?

By and large, the intention for a card like the WebMoney Card is to provide a safe and flexible approach to digital payments for everybody, both in person and online.

These cards are a safe approach to payment – when you use your WebMoney Card to pay for things on the internet, you do not need to expose any of your personal or financial details. Instead of entering your card number, expiry date, CVC and your permanent address into a website, all you do is put in your WebMoney Card number and that’s it. Plus, another great thing is that you can use your card to withdraw cash as well. So if you do not wish to spend your money on the internet, you can top up your card and use it as a substitute to a credit card or debit card in a shop. It is protected by 3-D Secure for online transactions too. This is a technical standard created and used by MasterCard and Visa for making payments over the internet. It adds a layer of security, as it requests a static password or a single-use code as well as your PIN and card details to complete the payment. This gives you an extra piece of mind when you use your WebMoney Card online and helps prevent any unauthorized use.

Now, the most prominent kind of WebMoney Card available is the “WebMoney Card Light”. This card is extremely easy to get and can be ordered at any time convenient for you. All that is needed to be done is to create a WebMoney account and then, after installation of the special WebMoney Keeper software, the card can be ordered through your account and linked to it.

WebMoney Cards are prepaid bank cards, available both in plastic and virtual. They are accepted anywhere a MasterCard is and they come with a variety of different functions, each designed with convenience and security in mind. For one, they are vetted through the international processing agency MasterCard. Therefore, before you can use a WebMoney Card, you must provide your full personal information for the card to be activated. After that step, you will get a personalized plastic card.

1.2 Benefits of WebMoney Cards

One of the major advantages of using a WebMoney Card is its global acceptance. WebMoney Cards are accepted in all parts of the world, and they make it easy for individuals to transact business in virtually any country where the card is recognized. What is particularly unique about this benefit is that it is available to all types of WebMoney Cards. From the classic WebMoney Card to the gold and platinum options, accountholders can use WebMoney Cards in any corner of the globe where WebMoney is recognized. Accountholders can also enjoy a relatively high level of security when they use a WebMoney Card, particularly during online transactions. WebMoney has incorporated a multi-level security system that begins with the optional use of SMS or email confirmation to authorize a payment. This measure, according to information provided on the WebMoney website, is specifically designed to protect accountholders from unauthorized online payments. Accountholders who have lost their WebMoney Card can, according to information provided on the official WebMoney website, receive emergency cash disbursement of up to 5,000 US dollars. This is an important consideration for individuals who frequently travel and may therefore be at a higher risk of losing their cards. Such benefits are in addition to the standard protections accorded to WebMoney card holders, such as the chip and PIN technology, as well as the Mastercard Zero Liability policy. Accountholders also benefit from a relatively high level of user autonomy with a WebMoney Card. For example, while physical or virtual classic cards can be obtained for family members who may have limited access to funds, WebMoney also offers gold and platinum cards which are designed to suit accountholders with more advanced identification attestation status. These advanced cards offer higher credit limits and more currency options to the accountholder, making it possible for individuals to tailor their WebMoney card use to their individual needs.

2. How to Get WebMoney Cards

Creating a WebMoney account To get a WebMoney card, you need to first create a WebMoney account. Go to the WebMoney website and click “Sign Up” in the top right corner to create a new account. You will be given a choice of different types of purses – with different currencies and services. For the prepaid cards, you will need to register for a “WMZ” purse, which holds US dollars. Select the “WMZ” purse from the list and enter a valid email address and the secure code shown. Then hit “Register” and follow the step-by-step instructions to finish the registration process, including setting up a secure PIN, which will be used in combination with your account number for all transactions. Once completed, you will be given an account number, which you will need in the future for your card application, and you will be able to access your account through the website.

2.1 Creating a WebMoney Account

A variety of options are available for loading the WebMoney card. Users can add money directly to the card, and other options include using online bankers, at customer service points, and direct deposits in the bank. WebMoney cards have high standards of safety, and you need a personal password associated with the card along with the pin number issued on the card. Users have the ability to check the card balance and statements, and in case the card is lost or stolen, it is simple to ensure that the money in the card is safe. This can be done by logging in to the WebMoney website and allowing the card to be blocked or unblocked.

With a WebMoney account, users are able to access a variety of financial services such as person to person money transfers, withdrawing and depositing into a bank account, and issuing WebMoney cards. These cards are available in different currencies from US dollars, Euros, and Russian rubles in both classic and gold options. All the cards have no limits to the amount of money that can be kept in the card and have a validity period of two years.

To create a WebMoney account, you have to register and the process is free of charge. You will need to visit the registration site and provide your details, and you will be sent a registration number. You should wait for an activation code, which will be sent by post to your address. After receiving the code, you should visit the WebMoney site and implement the final stage of registration by entering the code sent to your address. After sending the code, your details will be verified in a period of up to three days, and then you will have access to all the services provided by WebMoney.

2.2 Verifying Your Account

The account verification process is more advanced than the registration. To successfully verify your WebMoney account, you must be willing to share your personal information as well as identify yourself according to the specified requirements. However, before starting the verification process, you should ensure that your personal profile in the WebMoney system under “Passport Data” is completely filled in. You can check Personal Info on the left hand side of the Keeper Standard main menu to ensure the passport data is duly filled. You may also select “Personal Passport” from the “Tool” section of the main menu. After ensuring the passport data is duly filled, the first step in your account verification process is to apply for an initial passport. The initial passport is issued immediately once you make the application. However, you may be required to re-apply for a formal passport in future depending on the number of points assigned to your initial passport. With the initial passport, login to the WebMoney system and click “Settings” on the left hand side of the screen. Click “Security and Limits” and then “Get a formal WM passport” as shown on the main menu. Fill in the necessary personal information and submit the application. After filling your personal information, the next step may require that you undergo one of the several identification methods provided. However, the method you may use depends on your country and the nature of verification you want to undergo. For instance, you may choose to verify your account using online methods that require you to show your face from your computer’s web camera or through your cell phone camera. Alternatively, you may choose to verify your account by providing a certified electronic copy of your ID and a photo. You may also physically visit an office of a service which provides online identification services for a face to face verification of your account. You may be required to answer a few security questions before completion of the verification process. However, once your identification method is accepted by the WebMoney identification service, you only have to wait for your provided documents to be inspected and the verification to be completed. The passport and personal information is verified within three working days. If successful, you will see a notification message sent to the “Events Log” section of your account menu indicating successful verification and the type of passport issued.

2.3 Applying for WebMoney Cards

The first thing a user needs to do in the process of applying for WebMoney cards is to log into their account. After logging into the account, the user is then required to click on “Applications”. This is a menu item and it is found towards the left-hand side of the page. However, it is important to note that the “Applications” menu can only be visible to individuals who have gotten their WebMoney accounts verified. In order to complete the applying process, the user selects “Cards”, what follows is a selection of the type of WebMoney card the user wants. It is at this stage, a user may also decide to choose the currency the card should be loaded with. Once the application has been submitted, users are encouraged to check the status of the application. Users can do by clicking on “Card Settings” and then selecting “My Applications”. Here, a user will see the pending application and when it is approved, the same will be displayed. It usually takes 3 days for the WebMoney card application to be processed. However, users may also send an email to CardsApproval@wmtransfer.com indicating that they are yet to receive feedback regarding their WebMoney card applications. Such an email should feature the phone number used for identification of the user’s WebMoney account. It is also important to mention the chosen application method and in this case, the user identification number. The friendly and professional team dedicated to the approval of WebMoney cards will get back via a telephone call.

3. Using WebMoney Cards for Online Payments

Your WebMoney cards can be used for online shopping. When you are ready to pay, simply select the card and enter the card number and other requested details – like your name and the card’s expiry date. If you don’t have enough funds on the WebMoney card, the payment will be declined. This may be the right solution for you if you want to shop online securely using a prepaid card but also want the added flexibility of using it as a credit card payment method. Another advantage of using a WebMoney card is that your primary WebMoney account details – such as your account number, user name or password – are not used for the online payment, something that may offer an extra level of security. This can help to reduce the risk of online fraud because you won’t be entering your actual account details in different websites. Plus, as your WebMoney card is a prepaid card, there’s a limit to how much any fraudster can spend if your card details were stolen and misused. Every purchase and fee is documented, providing visibility of outgoing and incoming transactions in the payment history – just select the date range for a specific period and click on the transaction to see more details like payment method used, receiver and sender details, and so on. This can be valuable when planning and tracking expenses as well as when trying to identify a particular transaction.

3.1 Adding Funds to Your WebMoney Cards

Like e-wallets, you can top up your WebMoney card in a number of ways. From their website, they have listed the ways in which you can finance your wallet and I will be listing the ways in this post. However, for me, the most convenient methods are to deposit/transfer cash or transfer via your bank. These 2 methods require you to create a transaction on the WebMoney website for the money to reflect on your WebMoney card or you can do a direct bank wire. As I have not gone through the bank transfer, hence I will not be touching on that. I will cover the method to top up your WebMoney card via deposit in my subsequent post. On the WebMoney website, there is a section called ‘Top Up’, which allows a payer to transfer an amount from his/her account to the WebMoney purse. And when the card is due for renewal, this amount will be charged. Also, it is stated on the website that you can choose to top up your wallet by cash in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. As for Ukraine, apart from depositing funds into your wallet, you can also withdraw money from the wallet processed via 3rd party websites/company like Privat24.

3.2 Making Secure Online Payments

When making online payments using your WebMoney card, it is natural to feel concerned about the security of your personal and financial information. This is especially the case when you are using a platform or making a payment to a provider for the first time. With your WebMoney card, you can easily make any online payment in full awareness that the process is secure and your details are safe. When prompted to provide your card details, you will need to give the long number on the front of your card, the expiry date and the CVV2 number (the three digits on the back of the card). This information is all that is needed to make a payment. However, when you use your WebMoney card, it acts as an intermediary between our server and the seller. So unlike when making a payment with just a card, you are asked to log in using your credentials and to authorize the payment. You can always view the payment or get more assistance on the transaction by visiting the “Payment” section from the home page on your WebMoney Keeper account. From here you can see any payments that are pending or complete and you can choose to go through a transaction by transaction breakdown to understand the exact status of a payment, which is especially useful if your payment fails for any reason. The WebMoney payment system uses a variety of security measures and protocols to ensure that your money and your information is as safe as possible. Its servers use SSL encryption, a technology that helps to secure and protect information. SSL works by establishing a secure and encrypted link between the browser and the website or server you are communicating with. This secure link ensures that all data passed between the server and the user remains private and integral. By using the WebMoney card as a level of separation from your money and the wider web, as well as unique digital signing keys that are highly resistant to being hacked or found through brute force techniques, the system is widely regarded as being a very safe method for making online payments.

3.3 Tracking Your Payment History

WebMoney offers a number of different methods for viewing and tracking your payment history. The first method requires that you click on the “My WM” tab located at the top left of the screen. From the drop-down menu that appears, click on “History > Payment History.” The resulting page will show you a full list of all the payments that have ever been made on your WebMoney account, including both incoming and outgoing payments. By default, the page will display the past week’s payment history, though clicking on various buttons located at the top of the list allow you to change the time frame to the past month, two months, or three months. The length of time that the list shows can also be changed by clicking on the “Period” button and manually selecting a start and end date. The “Type” button can be used to filter by different types of payment, such as payments made in a particular currency. Each payment in the list is displayed with the date and time the payment was made, a short description of the transaction type, the sending party’s wallet ID, the amount of the payment, and the receiving party’s wallet ID. For detailed information about a particular payment, clicking on the payment will open a separate page containing a comprehensive summary; a link is included in the summary that, when clicked, will load the transaction details in a new web page. By contrast, the second method for tracking your payment history does not require the use of an internet browser. This method makes use of the “Keeper Standard” program; once this program is running, locate and click on its shortcut icon to open it. From the main program window, use the menu at the top to click on “Tools -> Information -> Events next day” and a page displaying the current day’s payment history will open. Similar to the online method, the Keeper Standard program also offers the ability to adjust the display time frame and filter the items shown by using the buttons and options on the tool bar. Finally, make sure to keep your payment history safe and secure from unauthorized access by either having and maintaining an effective firewall and antivirus software, or by not selecting the option to remember your password when logging in to your WebMoney account and exiting the program after you have finished using it.

3.4 Managing Multiple WebMoney Cards

Once you have registered and received a WebMoney Keeper identification number, you will have the opportunity to manage multiple WebMoney cards on your own. You can either apply for a new WebMoney card or associate existing WebMoney cards to yourself. To apply for a new WebMoney card or associate existing WebMoney cards to yourself, go to “WebMoney Cards” on the left-hand side menu on the WebMoney Keeper website. If you are planning to apply for a new card, select “New Card” and follow the instructions. You will need to enter a name for the card and follow the instructions to associate the card with yourself. If you already have WebMoney cards and want to associate existing ones with yourself, choose “Associate Cards” and then the list of all the WebMoney cards that are associated with the respective WMID will be listed. You can choose any card from the list and associate it with yourself by following the instructions. Note that the card will need to be detached from the previous owner in order to be associated with yourself. Please be reminded that it is important that you should never disclose your WebMoney Keeper password or personal information to any third parties, and only associate WebMoney cards with yourself when you have the authority to manage financial assets of the cards. All the associated WebMoney cards will be shown on the “WebMoney Cards” section in WebMoney Keeper as well as the total balance of all the cards that are associated with yourself.

4. Security and Privacy

The security and privacy section of WebMoney focuses on how your information is safe and what measures can be taken to ensure your information remains protected. One of the key focuses is your money. They describe how the company uses numerous methods to keep your money safe. This includes low-cost card and electronic wallets which have a two-stage security system known as the E-num identity verification. This requires you to input a password plus a unique code that is generated by your phone. So even if your card details were stolen, no transactions could happen without your phone generating this unique code. Many card services do not include such detailed information about the security of customers’ money, so this information would certainly help to build a case for WebMoney cards being safe to use.

4.1 Protecting Your WebMoney Account

Knowledge of simple tips and strategies can make all the difference in keeping your digital wallet safe. Access to your WebMoney account usually involves two things: something you know (your password and username) and something you have (your WMID and one of your digital identifiers). You should: – Never disclose your WebMoney Keeper password to anyone. – Use antivirus software on the computer that you use to access your WebMoney Keeper. – Avoid using ‘saving passwords’ because if your computer is accessed by someone else, they could get to your WebMoney Keeper. Instead, use password manager software. – Always log off from your WebMoney Keeper when you have finished using it (especially if you are using a shared or public computer). This is to ensure that nobody else can access your WebMoney Keeper. – Watch out for scam and phishing emails. These emails are designed to trick people into thinking they are genuine emails from companies such as WebMoney. Abide by these simple guidelines and you can be sure that you will keep your digital assets safe. However, WebMoney also has a two-factor authorization (or 2FA) which provides an extra layer of security. When you are about to login to your WebMoney Keeper, you will be prompted to enter a unique 5-digit code. This code will be generated by using a special WebMoney 2FA application on your smartphone; so in effect it gives you an extra level of security that a hacker would have great difficulty. Two-factor authorization can be set up easily. First, download and install one of the many 2FA apps such as Google Authenticator or Sophos Authenticator to your smartphone. Then make an entry of the pair of keys that the WebMoney Keeper helper will display as a QR code. Save the keys and download them in the WebMoney Keeper. After that, activate the authorization. So whenever you login to your WebMoney Keeper, you will need to enter the unique code generated by your smartphone. By defending ourselves from digital fraud, it will help us feel more secure when using web services.

4.2 Safeguarding Your Personal Information

Did you know that WebMoney ensures that all information you entrust it with is safeguarded? First, WebMoney has implemented and continues to maintain a sophisticated, high-grade firewall and various encryption methods. A firewall is designed to prevent others from accessing personal account information. The information stored in the member area is either deleted entirely or separated from personally identifiable information after a certain period of time. This information includes session security tokens and payment history logs. Effective with the latest WebMoney Keeper Classic, WebMoney also employs Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol on every page that asks for personally identifiable information. SSL is an established method of encrypting data at the time it is supplied to a website. Furthermore, to minimize the potential for unauthorized access to your WebMoney account, it is recommended that you always use a WebMoney card to deposit money into the member area. These cards have several benefits, the main advantage being that every card has a unique number and a unique digit security code which is used in every submission to the site. However, WebMoney still highly recommends you practice maximum caution to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to your personally identifiable information. For example, in addition to logging out of the website every time your account is inactive, it is advisable that you consider clearing your browsing history and deleting temporary files and cookies, and setting your browser to clear your browsing history every time it closes. Also, do not disclose your personal password, secret key, or other means of access to the security features of your WebMoney account to any unauthorized third party. Remember that you are solely responsible for how you safeguard and control access to your WebMoney account, so making sure the privacy and security of your personal information is maintained royalties. Well, with WebMoney, you can be guaranteed that all your sensitive information is handled in the strictest confidence and that it remains secure during the storage and transmission. Now you see why most people are opting to sign up.

4.3 Reporting Suspicious Activities

The reporting of suspicious activities has risen to be critical for online financial platforms. It is no longer just enough to not engage in potentially harmful activities. Identifying and reporting them are also. In order to continue enjoying the service and maintain your safety, you must be engaged in the fight against illicit activities by being proactive and vigilant. But what are the types of activities that might be classified as suspicious? Well, this will usually vary from one service provider to another based on the terms of guidelines. However, in the case of WebMoney, suspicious activities are those that could have potential repercussions on the safety and security of your account or involve the use of WebMoney for illegal, fraudulent or wrongful activities. If you suspect that your WebMoney account has been accessed by an unauthorized third party, you should report the activity to the relevant authorities. Similarly, if you find that WebMoney utility is being used in activities such as fraud, scam or any other activity against the law, you should report this as soon as possible. Though there is a wide range of activities that may be classified as suspicious, the bottom line is that it is all about protecting the integrity of the WebMoney system. Such practices will ultimately contribute towards making WebMoney a more secure financial platform for all to enjoy.
